Description:This position supports the entire Communications Division in a deadline-driven and often fast-paced environment. In addition to responding to requests from individuals within the Publications Office, the position works with staff members throughout the division and with faculty members, alumni and students. The position functions as a first point of contact for the office.

Duties:
  • General Office: Data entry to request payments to vendors; internal billing; creation of and maintaining office supplies; ordering photographic supplies and equipment; oversee database management; sending op-eds to numerous newspapers; overseeing office filing and filing system. Arranging meetings and maintaining the department calendar. Answering main Communications phone line and greeting visitors.
  • Editorial Related: Assisting with editing/proofreading a large volume of materials. Assist with the editing, proofreading and production of DePauw Magazine. Also have primary responsibility for obtaining and selection of books for "Recent Words." Primarily responsible for proofreading/fact checking/editing the "Class Notes" and "Obits" sections of the magazine. Proofread/edit a wide variety of publications and communication for print and website. Often asked to suggest topics for articles in the magazine or asked to improve articles for other editorial opinion.
  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (four year college or university) desirable but not required.
  • Two to four years of related experience.
  • Experience in editorial work - editing, proofreading and excellent command of the English language is key.
  • The person in this position must be comfortable with encountering a wide spectrum of subjects, ideas, people and projects. A basic understanding of publications and printing is helpful but not required.
