Computer Science Laboratory/Tech Support Coordinator

Description:The Computer Science Laboratory and Technical Support Coordinator reports to, and is supervised by, the Chair of the Department of Computer Science. The primary responsibility of the person filling this position is to support the teaching, research, and outreach missions of the Computer Science Department. A secondary responsibility of the person filling this position is to support projects that extend beyond the Computer Science Department such as maintaining the campus DyKnow server, imaging Tablet PC carts, and providing Linux support for faculty in other departments. Additional projects may be requested by the Library and Information Systems Department. These requests will be made to the chair of the computer science department, who will approve the task assignments and set priorities for their completion if appropriate. It is intended that approximately 15% to 20% of the overall work of the person filling this position will involve projects outside of the Computer Science Department.

Depending on education, qualifications and experience, the laboratory and technical support coordinator may also hold the title of part time laboratory instructor. In this case the coordinator may be asked to teach laboratory sections of CSC121 (Computer Science One) if the full time faculty members are not able to teach all of the laboratory sections.
Duties:
  1. Manage and support Computer Science Department laboratory facilities
  2. Help to maintain departmental web server and web sites
  3. Administer, maintain, configure, and image departmental Windows and Linux laboratories and machines
  4. Serve as an interface between the Computer Science Department and the Library and Information Services Department
  5. Supervise and coordinate laboratory sessions for Computer Science I
  6. Administer DyKnow servers
  7. Support faculty Linux users
  8. Research and recommend new technologies
  9. Perform other duties as requested
Qualifications:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Computer Science (or related field) expected;
  • Experience with Linux and Windows system administration, configuration, and maintenance;
  • Interest in keeping abreast of new technologies;
  • Ability to work with people, including faculty members and students, required;
  • Prior experience in an academic environment preferred.
