Description:DePauw University is a nationally recognized liberal arts university set on a beautiful campus of 695 acres in west central Indiana. This 4-1-4 institution including one of the nation�s oldest schools of music is dedicated to academically challenging and socially engaging students from across the country and around the globe. DePauw is recruiting for two Career Services Advisors for their newly endowed K.F. Hubbard Center for Student Engagement. DePauw�s commitment to Experiential Education on a Liberal Arts campus is demonstrated through the innovative development of this center which combines the functions of career services, internships, national fellowships & awards, off-campus study, Winter Term and civic engagement. The newly created Career Services Advisor positions will be responsible for providing DePauw students and young alumni with effective tools and strategies for their career planning needs. In addition to career advising, each advisor will also be responsible for target areas which may include class-year programming (i.e. the sophomore experience), student-alumni programming, international student career advising, pre-law advising and development and assist with the peer-education program. These advisors will work closely with their colleagues in other functional areas of the Center and be actively engaged in helping students connect their co-curricular learning with their professional and personal life direction.

Duties:
  • Provide career advising and �connecting� support to students/alumni on their career objectives, resumes and cover letters, employment search strategies and graduate school planning; administer and interpret career assessments; develop and implement career development programming.
  • Coordinate career development events, individually and in collaboration with other CSE and other campus staff.
  • Assist with employer relations functions and major employment programming. As appropriate make contact with potential and returning employers for on-going recruiting efforts, resume referrals and career exploration programming.
  • Maintain tracking and reporting of services; compile data and write annual reports; and utilize technology tools and resources for tracking service delivery.


  • Qualifications:
  • Education: Master�s degree in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, counseling, human resources, or related field with a minimum of one year of providing direct student services in higher education required. A Bachelor�s Degree and 5 years of equivalent experience can be substituted.
  • Experience: Minimum one year of providing direct student services in higher education required.
  • Computer Skills: Experience with databases and spreadsheets; proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher or equivalents. Computer literacy, including social media for career development.
  • Ability to function as part of a team with demonstrated capability to be flexible and agile in a complex work environment that supports student experiential education.
  • Must be willing to take initiative with a desire to become a co-creator in the development of the Center.
  • Knowledge of global job markets and an ability to work cross departmentally with employer relations and other Center functions.
  • Familiarity with industry references and jargon.
  • Ability to develop and present career-related programs.
  • Strong service orientation, excellent counseling and interpersonal skills, and understanding of and engagement with a diverse student body.
  • Must be able to assist students in using effective branding techniques for: resumes, cover letters, interviewing preparation, etc.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of multiculturalism and diversity through involvement and participation in university projects and initiatives.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Experience teaching career courses preferred.
  • Experience developing and planning career programs such as career fairs and student/employer events preferred.
  • Ability to administer career assessment instruments (Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory) desirable.
