Graduate Assistant, Athletic Trainer

Description:The Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer assists in the delivery of sports health care services to student-athletes in the intercollegiate athletic program at DePauw.

Duties:
  • Assist in the daily operation of the sports medicine facilities including but not limited to delivery of care, medical record keeping, secondary insurance and risk management.
  • Assist with supervision of work study students and clinical students.
  • Athletic trainer for Fall, Winter, and Spring sports teams as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.
  • Athletic training coverage of practices, home events and away events.
  • Work with the coaches and the sports medicine staff on injury prevention programs and on issues pertinent to the health and well being of DePauw student-athletes.
  • Work under the direction of the team physicians in matters pertaining to the care and management of injuries to student-athletes.
  • Manage sports injuries occurring to DePauw's intercollegiate athletes by providing injury evaluations, injury treatment, physician or counseling referral (when indicated) and rehabilitation.
  • Implement strategies for educating student-athletes in the ares of performance and wellness.
  • Understand and comply with NCAA Division III, conference and University rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student-athletes.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.


  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training
  • Clinical experience (as an athletic training student) with male and female athletic injuries in the collegiate setting is highly desirable.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Google Apps, and other computer experience as determined by specific sport responsibilities.
  • A valid US driver's license is required
  • NATABOC Certified (or certified eligible)
  • Indiana Athletic Trainer License (or license eligible)
  • Current certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to and history of strong belief in mentoring students and demonstrated experience in working with young adults.
  • Desire to work in a rural, small-school environment devoted to providing liberal arts education, building community, and helping students prepare for their future careers.
